Summary

Notes Half of me feels like this chapter ran kind of overlong, especially with the Dolly&Kroko segment. The other half really doesn't give a chookie's leg. Given that I was afraid I'd never get the chance to start it for the longest time, too many words is better than no words at all, don't you agree?
[Spoiler (click to open)]Relatedly, writing Lyall is seriously five different barrels of fun; after the pain in the ass that was Chapter 16, refining zer character and using it to help mellow both zer and Dolly out was a real artistic treat. :)

Chapter 16 Postface

I was going to put a group shot illustration in the middle of Chapter 16 in order to detail aspects of what toys the Claw Association is made up of that would bog down the chapter too much to put into words, as well as build up to a picture of the Great Face Reveal. But ultimately, I got really really really tired before I could do that, and I'd gotten stuck on this chapter long enough as it was. So instead, here are some solo pictures of some of the members of the Association, either due to their notability within the ranks or because I think I made them look cool.

Chapter 16 (!)

Notes I really like this chapter, but also, fuck this chapter. Seriously. Fuck this chapter and the seventeen damn months it took from starting its first incarnation to finally finishing its complete first draft. The chapter title is more appropriate than you think, if you know what it means. I'm just so relieved to have it up at last.
This is a continuation of my previous confession from the last chapter. I know I said I tried to be as accurate as I could before, but with all of that said,[Chapter 15-16 spoilers]I will defend the existence of a gift shop where there may not have been one before to the death. This story is set in a world where cuddly toys can talk and be alive to the majority of children and some adults, and Dr Wood's projectionist theory is a recent development psychologically; of course there will be more gift stores to sell toys in prime spots! Especially in Sassnitz, where they have the institution just for them right in the middle of their national park!

Chapter 15

Notes I have a confession to make. I've put a lot of effort into this story so far to make it as accurate to Germany as possible; ie, making almost everyone speak German except when the situation requires English, and taking into account German laws, customs and traditions. Hell, that's why this was practically compelled to be a Christmas story:[Chapter 13 spoilers]Germans really are only allowed to set off fireworks on New Year's Eve, and the desire for me as a writer to have the 'pivotal event #1' of chapter 13 take place around or near fireworks, and the symbolism that setting the story near that time slot would bring, outweighed the more logical route of making Dub's 'fantasy' be something else.
But keep in mind: I have never been to Germany in any capacity, so have not been to Sassnitz by extension. Indirect research can only get one so far, so I've had to take a few liberties with routes, directions, and placements of key buildings here and there; this is most egregious with the building that Dr Wood calls HQ. Hell, this problem, coupled with my dyscalculia in terms of length and time measurement, has actually spawned a potential future plot point for a potential sequel series. So I may get things seriously wrong about the particulars of the key location in this chapter and the next,[Chapter 15 spoilers]specifically with regard to the exterior, look and layout of Tierpark Sassnitz
. Please be lenient as you call me out on this! I've tried my best to reconstruct it with the details I have been given online.
